Dear Parents,
For the last few weeks, the third grade has been working on learning vocabulary in Spanish related to “the house.” The students now know the Spanish words for the different names of the rooms, as well as for the furniture that you can find in each of them.
To finish the unit, the students are going to build their own house (in a shoebox!). This hands-on project requires time and creativity on their part. We are hoping that you can provide your son or daughter with some guidance throughout the project, so they can meet the requirements in a timely fashion.
Project requirements:

  1. The students will have a week to build the shoebox house, beginning on February 17; February 24 is the due date (please note that this is the day after the four-day Presidents Weekend).
  2. The house must have at least two rooms.
  3. Students must use “repurposed” material to build the entire house – do not purchase anything new to use in the house.
  4. Rooms and furniture must be labeled in Spanish.
  5. There should be 7 pieces of furniture minimum.
You can find all the vocabulary needed for the project on the Spanish wiki.
We hope you find this project as much fun as the students find it and that you enjoy watching your son or daughter build a house! We encourage you to ask your child questions about the house as he/she builds it; this will give them additional practice using their new vocabulary.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation, and please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
The Spanish Department
